I photograph families with softness, with joy, and with space to just be. No forced smiles. No perfect poses. Just the golden, fleeting magic of your real life.
Hi there!
If you are like me, you probably have over 2,000 photos of your kids on your phone. They are so accustomed to us snapping a quick photo of them. They may even ask you to take a photo of them before you even consider taking out your phone. Because of that, you may think they are ready for a family portrait session. Just like you and me, they may feel a little nervous about being in front of a big, professional camera, especially if it is a stranger standing right behind it. Don’t fret, I am here to help with finding the perfect Spring, TX photographer.
When looking for a photographer consider what type of Spring, TX photographer you may need. Is it a family, newborn, maternity, seniors, etc? Finding the right photographer for your family portraits isn’t as simple as picking someone with a nice camera or even someone who takes beautiful photos. Photography is a broad field with many specialties, each requiring a unique set of skills, tools, and sensibilities. When you’re looking to capture meaningful moments with your family—whether it’s your toddler’s laughter, a quiet moment with your newborn, or a generational portrait—hiring a photographer who specializes in family photography can make all the difference.
Specialization is more than a label; it’s a reflection of where a photographer has invested time, training, and creative energy. A specialist has likely honed their craft in a specific setting, developed techniques suited for that niche, and cultivated an eye for details others might overlook.
The same goes for photography. A family photographer understands how to engage kids, make parents feel at ease, and bring out natural interactions that feel genuine and timeless. They are skilled at handling unpredictability, working with various ages and personalities, and making everyone feel seen and included.
To better understand the landscape, here’s a breakdown of common photography niches:
Hiring someone outside their specialty can lead to missed moments, awkward interactions, or even frustration for everyone involved.
Photographing a sleepy newborn or a fidgety toddler? That’s a whole different ballgame than say a wedding photographer.
Newborn photography, for example, demands a calm, quiet environment and a deep understanding of infant safety and comfort. It often involves working in small spaces, using soft natural light, and having the patience to wait out baby naps, feedings, or diaper changes.
On the flip side, a newborn photographer might struggle with the pace and logistics of a wedding day—think fast-changing lighting, multiple locations, and large groups.
So the next time you’re booking a session for your growing family, newborn baby, or milestone moment, look beyond the portfolio highlights and dive into the photographer’s true area of expertise. Your future self—and your photo albums—will thank you
There are so many effective ways to find your Spring, TX photographer. There’s an easy Google search, Facebook, Instagram and even Pinterest.
When making a Google search, look at their reviews. Those will be helpful to read to get an insight on the experience they offered other clients.
Facebook also has reviews that you can look over and read about what specifically clients enjoyed when working with your Spring, TX photographer.
Instagram and Pinterest are great for looking at inspiration for particular photographers.
My favorite are testimonials and personal recommendations.
Look at photographers portfolio. What do the families look like in those photos? Do they look engaged? Do they look like they are having fun? Do the outfits look well put together? Are there children in the photos? What age group are the children? All this can give you an insight of what to expect your photos will look like.
X Avoid photographers that don’t have children in any of their photos.
X Avoid photographers that don’t have toddlers or preschool aged children
What kind of customizations does the photographer offer? You as a parent know your child best. Does your child need 30 minutes to warm up to the camera? Would an hour shoot be too overwhelming for your child?
I’ve worked with different personalities.
In a shoot of my great friend’s family, it took me 30 minutes to get these final images, so she only paid for 30 minute session. That was plenty time for THIS family. Of course, not all children can warm up to the camera so easily. Next time you are emailing a potential Conroe photographer, ask them about customized sessions. Or do they ONLY provide a one size fits all package.
X Avoid photographers that do not offer custom collections.
When reviewing your Spring, TX photographer, does their portfolio look consistent? For instance, editing can look either light and airy or moody. Which of these styles will fit your personal style? When you go to print and frame these photographs, consider if it will match your decor.
There are other technical aspects to look at like lighting and composition. We don’t want awkward crops. Experienced photographers will not crop out heads or limbs that will make your photograph look disconnected or off.
Lastly, posing. Do the poses look posed or natural? If you are looking for an editorial look, you may like the posed looks. If you want something more natural, look at photos where family members look engaged with natural movement- kids laughing, kids playing, or kids being thrown in the air for those natural giggles we know so well.
Whether you’re booking a family session, newborn portraits, or a senior shoot, you’ve probably noticed that photography pricing can vary widely. From mini sessions at bargain prices to premium packages that run into the thousands, it’s easy to wonder: What am I actually paying for?
Let’s break down the average price ranges for different types of sessions, what’s typically included, and why the cheapest option isn’t always the best value.
Photography rates depend on location, photographer experience, session length, and what’s included.
For an experienced photographer, I’ve seen rates start at $550. In that price range, you’re not getting much of an experience. You can however, count on a photographer that understands lighting and posing.
Anything much lower than that, I’d say the photographer is building their portfolio or it’s more of a hobby.
These are ballpark figures—every photographer structures their pricing differently, based on experience, overhead, and service level.
Photographers aren’t just charging for the hour they spend clicking the shutter. Here’s what’s often built into your package price:
Behind every beautiful photo is more than just talent—it’s also a substantial investment in tools and expertise. Your session fee contributes to:
You’re not just buying photos—you’re investing in someone who can confidently deliver irreplaceable memories with consistency, safety (especially for newborns), and artistry.
It’s tempting to go with the lowest quote, especially if someone’s offering “just a few quick photos.” But here’s why that might backfire:
In short, you may end up paying more later—either to reshoot the session or fix mistakes.
To ensure you’re getting what you need (and avoiding surprises), ask your photographer the following:
Working with preschool children is very different from working with eight year old. What kind of experience does your photographer have working with toddlers and preschoolers? This age group is very different than working with much older children like eight year olds that are a little more cooperative.
I’ve taken courses in parenting and children to help me navigate small and large emotions during sessions.
Ask your photographer what kind of experience they have when working with tantrums during a session. What kind of tools can they provide in sticky situations like these.
Coming into the session, one of the little boys was not excited about taking photos.
Getting on his level, being empathetic, and asking the right questions, helped in getting the results we got on camera.
X Avoid photographers that don’t have the experience working with all age groups. Reference back to their portfolio for this.
X Avoid photographers that don’t have the tools to navigate different children and situations.
This is a big one.
From the moment a mom sends me an inquiry to the date of the gallery being delivered, I want my families to feel like a million bucks.
This means I first engage with them through a conversation over the phone to listen to their photography needs.
Some families want updated photos of their growing children to hang on their walls.
Others are new to parenting and need photos of their new family organized in a luxe album.
All families needs are different. Because my moms are busy balancing their careers and taking care of their children, I want to avoid all the back and forth with emails. With the initial phone call, I can really hone in on what parents want.
After that call, I don’t “disappear” until your session. I keep close contact via email providing resources including a style guide, a packing checklist, tips for children, vendor details like hair, makeup, nails, clothing, and so much more.
Next time you are emailing your photographer, ask them what kind of resources they provide to help with your session experience.
X Avoid photographers that don’t really LISTEN to your needs.
X Avoid photographers that don’t provide a plan for your day.
Finding a local photographer ensures that you get all the hidden gems without the crowds. An experienced photographer puts time into knowing their favorite locations. They pay attention to light, backgrounds, crowds, permits, time of day to shoot, etc.
For this particular area in Spring, TX I have two favorite spots to shoot at. It is both amazing at sunrise and sunset.
I love shooting mostly during the week because of the least amount of foot traffic.
Next time you are considering hiring a Spring, TX photographer, look at several factors highlighted above to help make your decision. There is so much that goes into being an expert in any given field and photography is no different.
